What Can Active Release Technique Treat?

Overuse, strain, sprain, or injury to soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments, muscles, and fascia may lead to the formation of scar tissue, adhesions, and restrictions. These tissue abnormalities cause pain, stiffness, reduced range of motion, and muscle weakness.

Developed and patented by Dr. P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP, Active Release Technique (ART) aims to identify and address soft tissue injuries through precise manual manipulation. This technique may help a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

How Active Release Technique Works

Active Release Technique is not like a massage. It can be uncomfortable as it works to release the tension of scarred tissue. The purpose is to eliminate the discomfort, pain, inflammation, or other problems caused by scarred tissue.

During the procedure, our chiropractor will feel the area with their hands and identify the tightness or any unusual muscle movement in the area that is bothering you. Once the problem is identified, our chiropractor focuses on the target area using a combination of manipulation and appropriate movements. This releases and stretches the soft tissue to break up any adhesions (dense collections of scar tissue formed when muscles and connective tissues are injured) contributing to your pain.
